Frequent Questions:
Is it better to get advice from a friend or from a family member?
What would you say are the characteristics of a good adviser?
Should people make their own work and career decisions, or is it a good idea to ask for advice about this?
Do we really need to follow our elders’s advices?
Elders are older than us which implies they have more experience than us and end of the day they want to see you succeed.
But this does not mean that they are right because I believe everyone has different perspective in life. You should be your ultimate decision maker and do what you feel is best for you.
Whenever elders give you can advice you can at least take their advice into consideration and evaluate it on basis of Logic, Pros and Cons.
You don’t have to follow the given advices, if you feel you aren't happy with their decision but at rock bottom give them a consideration maybe they are making sense.
To my mind it depends on situation, one definitely does not need to follow any advice blindly, one needs to take the advice into account and look into one’s own context and then take a decision. Most of the time it may not be a 100% fit and needs customisation to one’s situation like taking a decision on what to take up as a main subject, what career choices and so on. I am sure most of you will agree that as an individual you end up taking advices from everyone including yours elders and after all the inputs, the final decision on the way forward will your own and yours only.
