suggest 用法
一、suggest 當「建議」的用法
suggest 表示「提議、建議」是最常用的意思，而這部分的搭配用法也最豐富
suggest + 名詞/動名詞
要表達「建議某件事」，可以直接加上名詞，而若是「建議去做某件事情」時，suggest 後面的動詞要用動名詞 (V-ing)
我姊姊推薦一間吃下午茶不錯的咖啡店。
針對我們新寵物的名字，你可以提議一下嗎？
A: 我不知道要買哪一件洋裝。
B: 嗯… 我建議藍色那一件。
媽媽提議晚餐後去散步。
我提議看這部電影，但我朋友偏好看另一部。
老師提議期末考後去戶外郊遊。
My sister suggested a nice cafe for the afternoon tea.
Can you suggest a name for our new pet?
A: I don’t know which dress to buy.
B: Um… I suggest the blue one.
Mom suggested taking a walk after dinner.
I suggest watching this movie, but my friend preferred another one.
The teacher suggested taking a field trip after the final exam.
suggest + that 子句
suggest 當建議之意在搭配 that 子句時，特別留意唷～️ that 子句中的動詞一律要使用「原形動詞」！
我朋友建議我辭掉工作。
他爸爸建議他買那台車。
我建議這個段落重寫。
我朋友不建議我辭掉工作。
他爸爸不建議他買那台車。
我建議這個段落不重寫。
My friend suggested (that) I quit the job.
His dad suggested (that) he buy the car.
I suggest (that) this paragraph be rewritten.
My friend suggested (that) I not quit the job.
His dad suggested (that) he not buy the car.
I suggest (that) this paragraph not be rewritten.
此外，這個用法常搭配 may/can 的問句，會使得你在給建議時語氣比較溫和一點：
我可以建議我們下次討論這個議題嗎？
我可以建議每個人在早上十點前要在辦公室嗎？
May I suggest (that) we discuss this issue next time?
Can I suggest (that) everyone be in the office before 10 a.m.?
suggest + wh- 子句
除了 that 子句，suggest 後面還可以加上 wh- 子句，像是 what、how、where、when、which 等，通常會用問句的形式，例如：
有任何人可以建議我們要如何解決這個問題嗎？
你可以建議我哪裡能買到耐用的後背包嗎？
Can anyone suggest how we could solve the problem?
Can you suggest where I can buy a durable backpack?
suggest… to 人
➡ 如果建議的事情為子句，可以像這一句用 suggest to 人 that…
如果要表達「建議…給某人」的話，一定要搭配介系詞 to，這個部分比較多學習者會寫錯，例如：
那位經理提議了一些新的想法給老闆。
假如這件事發生在你其中一個朋友身上，你會怎麼建議他／她？
Mike 建議他父母應該買一台新車。
The manager suggested some new ideas to the boss。
If this happened to one of your friends, what would you suggest to him/her?
Mike suggested to his parents that they should buy a new car.
suggest… for…
suggest… for… 會表示「對於…而建議…」，帶有推薦的意味，意思近於 recommend。
其中 for 表示「為了…；對於…」，後面可以加上某人、某事、目的或是職位。
媽媽推薦用小蘇打粉來去除衣服上的污漬。
對於失眠，你有什麼建議嗎？
醫生推薦這款維生素補充品給我奶奶。
你們推薦誰做這個工作呢？
我們都推薦 Catherine 擔任那個職位。
Mom suggests baking soda for removing laundry odors.
What do you suggest for insomnia?
The doctor suggested the vitamin supplements for my grandma.
Who would you suggest for the job?
We all suggested Catherine for the position.
二、suggest 當「指出」的用法
suggest 還可以表示「指出」之意，可以分為兩種指出：一種是比較明確地「表明」，同義字為 indicate，另一種則是比較弱地指出，近似於「暗示」，同義字為 imply。
那這個用法很常在研究報告相關的文章、報導中看到，所以會看到搭配與數據相關的主詞，例如：evidence（證據）、result（結果）、data（資料）、study（研究）、statistics（統計資料）、poll（民意調查）。
suggest + 名詞
這份研究指出了使用這個物質來治療皮膚癌的可能性。
那個男孩的表情表明了他對畫畫興趣缺缺。
The study suggests the possibility of using the chemical to treat skin cancer.
The boy’s facial expression suggested a lack of interest in drawing.
suggest + that 子句
suggest 當「指出」時也可以搭配 that 子句，但是這裡就是一般的 that 子句，沒有規定要用原形動詞唷。
沒有證據指出新冠肺癌將會在夏天消失。
實驗研究指出了維他命 D 可以減少癌細胞成長並有助於控制感染。
No evidence suggests (that) COVID-19 will disappear in summer.
Laboratory studies suggest (that) vitamin D can reduce cancer cell growth and help control infections.
而在表示「暗示」的意思時，常會搭配進行式使用，例如：
你是在暗示我們不應該和他們合作嗎？
你是在暗示我應該要為這次的損失負責嗎？
我並不是在指她不適合那個職位。
Are you suggesting (that) we shouldn’t cooperate with them?
Are you suggesting (that) I should be responsible for the loss?
I’m not suggesting (that) she is not a good fit for the position.
