CC P7 Good habits make excellence

Introduction: Do you want to be excellent?If yes, should you directly focus on excellence itself?Here Conan will give you a different but practical perspective!

So at first, a question. Is there anyone here who thinks he or she  is excellent?Please raise your hand!

OK, so you guys showed me one of the most precious traits of Chinese, Modesty!

Actually I think If you make efforts to improve yourself constantly ,

you must be excellent in the future.

So If we want to be excellent, we should keep improving ourselves. In order to keep improving, we should develop good habits.

So what is good habit?It is the habit that can improve us with time!

For this point, Aristotle said: We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit.

So Excellent people are always with good habits.

But Why do good habits matter so much?

First,the definition. Habit is a lifestyle of what we repeatedly do. The point here is that we actually do it, not just think about it. Have you ever heard the catchphrases that I heard a lot of philosophy but I still cannot live a wonderful life? Why does that happen? I think the real reason is we only think about it in our mind while never take the first step. Accordingly, only if we do it, we have the opportunity to become excellent.

Second,Pay attention to the word: repeatedly. It means we not only do it, but also do it frequently and continually , which makes the amount of accumulation huge and impossible to be ignored. From the book of Malcolm Gladwell, , it mentions the 10,000-hour rule, which points out that to a large extent the key to achieving the world-class expertise in any skill, is a matter of practicing with the correct way, for a total of around 10,000 hours.  Which does support that  what we repeatedly do will make a difference. So we should take the first step to do it,  also keep doing it.

Third, it is good habits that really matter. Good habits end with good result, and bad with bad. Smoking is a bad habit, which will make you more possible to die of cancer while there are more than 350,000,000 smokers in China.  Sporting is a good habit, which will make you healthier, stronger and live longer While Only 1/3 of people take regular exercise!

We all know Liu Chuan Zhi ,  He used to be a good worker in Chinese Academy of Science at first but  he left. He started his startup, meanwhile he developed many good habits, such as his eagerness to learn,  his courage to dare to try, his determination to fight against diffculties. Many years had passed, all his good habits did contribute to a huge financial kingdom. Good habits may not be the only reason, but one of the most important ones.

Maybe Liu Chuan Zhi is too far to touch, but you must know your families, relatives and friends? Some of them may have good habits like reading, writing, sporting, practicing English, programming, even being crazy about learning new things. So they have a knowledgeable mind, a strong figure, a professinal skill even a heart without any fear when to learn.

On the contrary, Some of them may have bad habits like smoking, overdrinking, and hardly ever sporting, never making plans, being afraid of learning new things and refusing to improve themselves with even a little pain. So they may suffer from the physical sickness, also the mental sickness in the end.

So how to develop good habits?

1. Choose a good habit that can benefit you in the future. Also set a regular time for it.

2. Make a really small goal, just a super short step on it in the beginning. For example, if you want to run to keep healthy, just run 5mins on the first day.

3. Encourage and reward yourself when you finish the small goal.

4. Set a bigger goal for the next day and continue.

From this perspective, success is just a state with good habits.

Remember, It is not  because we are excellent that we  act rightly but because we act rightly, we become excellent.
