背景介绍
社会背景：《灿烂千阳》是作者胡塞尼继《追风筝的人》之后的又一力作。本书主讲女性，小说讲述了两个阿富汗妇女的不幸故事，个人要忍耐饥饿、病痛的约束。家庭要承受战争的创伤、难民的流离失所。国家要忍耐前苏联、塔利班与美国的战争。

故事大背景和《风筝》相似，1973年，阿富汗政变，推翻君主制。主人公之一Mariam是一个私生子，不出所料的又是一个老爷和仆人所生的孩子。出生后就跟随母亲住在一个泥屋里，生母因为身份低微而被老爷家赶出来，亲生父亲也只能每周四才能去看望她一次。于是，这一周一次的看望变成了年幼的Mariam心中唯一的期望。作为私生女，她或许永远无法合情合理的享受其他人所拥有的东西，比如亲人、家庭、认可、尊严，等等。生母娜娜大概是患有癫痫，Mariam因此在家中小心翼翼，生怕惹怒了母亲。生父Jalil是当地的富豪，拥有无数资产，三个妻子，十个孩子。Mariam幻想着和生父一起生活，不知道她能不能实现这个虚幻的愿望。

Summary
This book is dedicated to Haris and Farah, both the noor of my eyes, and to the women of Afghanistan.
This novel is similar to <The Kite Runner>, other than it is describe something about the women of Afghanistan. Mariam, one of the protagonists in this book. She was called harami by her mother, that is also means an unwanted thing. The fate of being an Illegitimate child means she would never have legitimate claim to the things other people had, things such as love, family, home, acceptance.The birth father of Mariam named Jalil who come to see her every Thursday. In their daily life, Jalil also let his sons sent living goods to them. But sadly, Nana often cursed their mothers and made hateful faces at them. Even though Mariam felt sorry for the boys, she had to do this to please her mother.
Nana made no secret of her dislike for visitors. In there, they only have three friends. One of them that Mariam favorite was Mullah Faizullah. She thought there was no one in the world who understand better than her old tutor.
After refused the request of went to school by her mother, she felt sad. Nana told her that there is only one skill to stay alive that is endure. Mariam began to picture herself living with Jalil, which is not only her dream but also spiritual support.
