The way we work has changed profoundly in the last two decades as the pace of technology, growth and the on-demand global workplace increases.
The work place is changing profoundly and forever.Old rules are going out the window, replaced with new norms, sometimes driven by technology or demands of works. Among the old rules that are becoming obsolete--and the new ones come into play.
Work can happen whenever you are, anywhere in the world. No longer is it common to know your colleagues by face and name--you might only know them by their email address or time zone. Of course, that doesn't mean you are no longer in contact with real people face to face, you need to stay present with people around you.
It has become second nature to us work wherever we are, whenever possible. Checking emails in bed; working on documents on the train; reviewing presentations with late night cup of tea. The line between life and work is almost entirely disappearing and there is a complete melding between work and life. How we choose to spend each minute depends on our feeling of worth and contribution.
We are supposed to have more self-awareness than ever before. This self-awareness will put you well ahead of your peer. Chances are, you won't be successful in a field you do not enjoy. When you are starting out, explore all of your options. Do not rule out a position you are interested in just because it does not seem to fit your ultimate career vision.
