Students today will nonnegotiable learn and play an instrument, one of the most widely recognized one is piano. However, in this article, I am not going to talk about the instruments that are widely known, instead, sharing an instrument that I play which it’s really popular at the period of time, is called Guqin.
I was around nine years old when I started playing this instrument. The beginning of everything was actually caused by my mother. She was learning Guqin herself at the beginning because she usually has lessons at where she works, so she would sometime take me there as well. After a few times, I become quite curious about the instrument, it has seven strings, twelve dot-like things on the surface of it, it seems like an extra length guitar. After my mother had a conversation with the teacher, he agreed on teaching me Guqin. Therefore, I started learning it every Saturday.
The process of it wasn’t easy. In the beginning, I was given a task to research 10 idioms on Guqin. However, the memory of the task was erased from me until 20 minutes before class. Therefore, I spend the rest amount of my time researching anything that I could use. When it is time for class, every part of me is rejecting entering the classroom become I was so nervous. When I had a class with my teacher Mr.WangYang the first time, I was so attracted by the humor teaching atmosphere and different themes he plays, I soon fell in love with the instrument.
For me, I have a bad habit, I really like to leave everything to do at the last minute, so when I was about ten, I usually only practice Guqin two or three times a week, because I was attracted by other factors around. The result, in the end, was getting extremely nervous at the last minute before attending the class. This suggests that I will have a bad performance play a song for my teacher. Mr.WangYang is a brilliant teacher, he is like a friend to me. However, I will get annoyed and frustrated when he uses silence treatment, people might not get what is silence treatment? In my words, it is a terrible way to punish a student like me, it destroys students defend from the inside, and letting students feel guilty by giving an unimpressed face and a full silent atmosphere. I was ‘tortured’ in that kind of study environment, but I think that is the best way for me to learn.
The experience I had was memorable, I had a great time think back at the time when I was so anxious about having class every week. From those experience I got out a point, I think that people should have some tough time when their a kid, having extra-curriculums, chasing friend in malls… From those experiences, people could have memorized that they could think back when they become adults. For me, Guqin was the best memory for me, although people today don’t really get what is Guqin, I will try my best to introduce it in the next few passages I am writing.
