My topic today is about traditions. To start with, I will talk about which tradition I think is meaningless but still popular. and I will choose the Naodongfang, in English, the wedding horseplay, a traditional part in a wedding ceremony in China.
The function of traditional wedding horseplay should be creating an atmosphere of love and harmony, making the families and friends share the romantic moments with the newly married couple. So why do I think we should discard the horseplay part at wedding? There are mainly two reasons: First of all, this tradition has become too violent and vulgar. Some people go too far and give offence. According to some reports, there was a groom beaten to death on his wedding horseplay. The happy event finally turned into a tragedy. Another reason is the sexual insulting to the couples even bridesmaid. You can read many news about it recently. In a word, the wedding horseplay brings about too many negative effects rather than positive functions. I think most people would rather boycott this tradition than keeping it in the future.
Q: How should we treat traditions?
Well, I think we should carry forward the good traditions, and leave alone those old fashioned. For example, the heat debate on traditional Chinese medicine is trustworthy or not showing many people doubting the effect of Chinese medicine. Some people think it helpless even harmful, others think the opposite. My opinion is, we are living in a age of artificial intelligence and technology. We cannot stand still and refuse to make any progress.
