lesson 46 Expensive and uncomfortable 既昂贵又受罪

When a plane from London arrived at Sydney airport, workers began to unload a number of wooden boxes which contained clothing. No one could account for the fact that one of the boxes was extremely heavy. It suddenly occurred to one of the workers to open up the box. He was astonished at what he found. A man was lying in the box on top of a pile of woollen goods. He was so surprised at being discovered that he did not even try to run away. After he was arrested, the man admitted hiding in the box before the plane left London. He had had a long and uncomfortable trip, for he had been confined to the wooden box for over ten hours. The man was ordered to pay $345 for the cost of the trip. The normal price of a ticket is $230 !

From The Passenger's View:

In order not to spend money on the ticket to Sydney, I hid in a wooden box full of clothes before the plane left from London. The plane finally arrived at the Sydney airport after over ten hours' flight. When the workers were uploading the wooden boxes from the plane. I heard that they were talking about the heavy box which I was in. Suddenly the box was open up. It had never occurred to me that I would be discovered at the airport. I was so surprised that I did not run away immediately. After I was arrested, I admitted the fact that I was trying to be a free rider. Then I was ordered to pay three-hundred-and-twenty-eight dollars for the cost of the trip. Oh, god! The normal price of the ticket was only two-hundred-and-twenty-eight dollars. I paid more and had had a more uncomfortable journey.

From the worker's View:

That day, I was working at the airport as usual. This time, our team's job was to unload a large sum of wooden boxes from the plane. We learnt that these boxes were all filled with woolen goods. But no one of us could account for the fact that why one of the boxes was extremely heavy. I thought there might be something illegal in it. Although company did not allow us workers to open or check the boxes or parcels of clients. But my curiousness[=> curiosity] 'won me'[=> got better of me] so I suddenly open up the box. I was astonished to find that a man was lying on the top of 'those clothes'[=> a pile of clothes]. And the man was too surprised at that he was discovered that he forgot to run away in time. I arrested him to the police with other else workers. Then I learnt that the man was a free rider and he was ordered to pay more than the normal price of a ticket for the cost of the trip. It was very funny that he paid more but 'had'[=> had had] a more uncomfortable trip because he was confined to the small box for over ten hours from London to Sydney.
