I have brought this book out for several times, but my son seems was not interested in this book. Now, due to the summer vacation, I thought there was a need for me to review this book again, to see whether I could improve my way of telling this book.
This book was written by Molly Bang, when I first saw the cover, I didn’t like the color very much, actually the colors were perfectly matched to the title, coz the girl Sophie was very angry from her face. I started reading the book from the 1st page “Sophie was busy playing when… her sister grabbed gorilla.” “No! said Sophie. Yes! Said her mother. It it her turn now, Sophie”,”as her sister snatched gorilla away…sophie fell over the truck.” Then I could feel Sophie liked the gorilla so much. So let’s see what happened then. “Oh, is Sophie ever angry now!” “She kicks. She screams. She wants to smash the world to smithereens”. Sophie seems like explode.
Following by the next page “She roars a red, red roar.” This was so much alike like anyone of us. When I got really angry, I also needed to find my way to sort it out my unhappiness, like roaring on the mountain when I was still on campus. Then we came to “Sophie is a volcano, ready to explode.” ”and when Sophie gets angry-really, really angry… ”. “she runs! She runs and runs and runs until she can’t run anymore.” Then for a little while, she cries. At this moment, I felt I was being with Sophie, coz I have been like this before, I guessed everyone did. “Now she sees the rocks, the trees and ferns. She hears a bird.” “She comes to the old beech tree. She climbs.” She feels the breeze blow her hair. She watches the water and the waves. This page made me recalled one of my favorite movie “Flipped”, the girl in that film just like Sophie climbed up a big tree, and from the top of the tree, they both saw the view they’ve never seen before, feel the world they’ve never felt before. Then we came to the next page “The wide world comforts her.” I could see the boundless ocean in the pic.
What happened next? Sophie feels better now. She climbs back down…and heads for home. She is ready to get back her warm home. By reading this book again, I felt this book was quite touching, not even teaching the kids to readjust their mood, but also the adults had the need to read this book. Thanks to the author.
