One of my pals asked me, 'have you been lost? You haven’t post update two days in a row, where have you been?'
I’m not lost my way; I was busy attending a super self-torture campaign:The Writing Marathon.
On January 31st, my idol Dragon Girl launched a campaign in her blog: The Writing Marathon.
The rule is simple: each participant should spend one whole day (24 hours) writingout 42 thousand words.
What does this mean?
It means even ifyou keep writing without any rest, you will have to finish at least 1750 words each hour to achieve the goal.
In another word, it means at least 29 words eachminute in average.
I have been a slow writer, the best performance I ever had was finishing ten thousand words in 10 days.
NZNDWYT(“No Zuo No Die Why You Try”)精神,还是报名参加了这次挑战。
Nevertheless, I still signed up for this challenge, with the spirit ofNo Zuo No Die Why You Try.
My final achievement is finishing the 42 thousand words within 39 hours, 15 hours later than the prescribed time.
But still I'm extremely proud of myself as I had overcome tremendous difficulties to get there.
During this 39 hours challenge, I only got 4 hours sleep, which by the way was supposed to be a short nap.
To save time, I gave up lunch and ate French fries instead.
After long hours of continuous physical and mental consumption in high intensity, I described my feeling as
‘…my brain is numb, my stomach is stiff, I can’t feel my leg and I’m already blind!’
When the deadline came and I was just halfway in the progress, I told Dragon Girl that ‘ I have failed in the challenge’
‘But’, I went on to say, 'I’m still going to keep writing, till i go across the finish line, even with my hands and knees'
So, I did it. When I finished the 42 thousand words in midnight of the second day, I couldn’t even feel any tiredness.
Looking back the whole course of challenge, which is filled with unspeakable suffering, I felt a tremendous pleasure. It feels like just having a spiritual massage.
It suddenly comes to my mind a sentence in The Greatest Salesman In The World:
Never will I be of concern that my goals are too high for is it not better to aim my spear at the moon and strike only an eagle than to arm my spear at the eagle and strike only a rock?
So, if you want to make some difference in your life, set a higher goal.
