- Leaders
- Essay
- Special report
- Books and arts
- Graphic Detail (最新版块)
- Obituary
- Christmas specials
1. Leaders (editorials)
Justin
The right to die (2015) 教科书式的论证文章;
Let them wed (for gay marriage);
Out with the long (所有单词都是单音节词,炫技);
IBM's centenary (创刊100周年纪念);
A manifesto (创刊175周年纪念)
2. Essay
Justin
The slumps that shaped modern finance
What's gone wrong with democracy
Reinventing liberalism for the 21st century
3. Special report
2018.11.17 Special report: Competition
2018.10.27 Special report: Australia
Justin
4. Books and arts
least understood. Read something else.
(Lane Greene)
Justin
Hot town: New York is brought to life in a sprawling debut novel
City on Fire. By Garth Risk Hallberg. Knopf; 944 pages; $30. Jonathan Cape; £20.
NEW YORK in the late 1970s was coming apart at the seams. People would be strung out in broad daylight, tottering down streets strewn with spent Pall Malls and “nickelbags like punctured lungs”. The Bronx was burning, graffiti spread like kudzu and muggers owned the parks after dark. Donna Summer oozed out of radios (“Love to love you babeee…”) while Patti Smith’s punk sermons drew acolytes downtown. The city was broke and on its way to hell. Or maybe it was already there.

5. Graphic Detail
Justin
6. Obituary
Editor: Ann Wroe
Justin
Whether in public or private she spoke, deeply and calmly, out of all the wrong ever done to blacks generally, and to her personally; out of all the wrong done to women generally, and to her personally. And then she soared above it.
You may shoot me with your words,
You may cut me with your eyes,
You may kill me with your hatefulness,
But still, like air, I’ll rise.
There was sorrow in her, strong and deep and mighty as that river Momma had sung about; but also the girlish, unconstrained laughter of a woman who, in her pristine inner self, could not be hurt at all.

7. Christmas specials
Justin
Read for fun and enjoy!
- Leaders (每周必读):一周热点事件评论,每篇都是精华文章,值得持续关注某些事件,并逐渐形成自己对事件的深度理解,如英国脱欧问题,the best way out of the Brexit mess, The truth about no deal, Into the endgame, Selling chequers, etc.
Into the endgame (leaders), Exit music (Britain).
Sally
I renewed my subscription of the Economist in November 2018 and reading it tops my 2019 New Year's Resolution list. The primary aim of reading the Economist is to deepen my understanding of global hot topics, including Brexit, Sino-US competition, the advancement of AI, develop my capacities in critical analysis and learn to appreciate the beautiful English language. My 2018 will end with great momentum and I am looking forward to an even more fruitful and hopeful 2019.
