在爷爷和父亲两代人的书架上，我都发现了阿尔温托夫勒所著的《第三次浪潮》，而且他们都对这本书赞不绝口，趁着周末休息，我看了一下这本吸引两代人的书。

On the shelves of my grandfather and father, I found Alvin Toffler’s "The Third Wave", and they were all so impressed with this book. Taking a weekend break, I read the book that appealed to two generations.

阿尔文 托夫勒在书中描述人类社会经历的三个阶段：第一次浪潮为农业阶段，从约 1 万年前开始；第二阶段为工业阶段，从17 世纪末开始；第三阶段为信息化（或者服务业）阶段，从 20 世纪 50 年代后期开始延续至今。

In his book, Alvin Toffler describes the three stages of human society: the first wave was the agricultural phase, beginning about 10,000 years ago; the second being the industrial phase, beginning at the end of the 17th century; and the third being the information (or service) phase, which continues from the late 1950s to the present day.

The idea is that the fact that we are facing the information revolution is changing lives, and what our generation needs more is to find more rational and effective ways to use existing technologies, to make more effective use of existing societies and natural resources, to achieve sustainable development, rather than investing enormous effort seeking greater technological breakthroughs.

“The First Wave is the settled agricultural society which prevailed in much of the world after the Neolithic Revolution, which replaced hunter-gatherer cultures.

The Second Wave is Industrial Age society. The Second Wave began in Western Europe with the Industrial Revolution, and subsequently spread across the world. Key aspects of Second Wave society are the nuclear family, a factory-type education system and the corporation.

The Third Wave is the post-industrial society. Toffler says that since the late 1950s most countries have been transitioning from a Second Wave society into a Third Wave society. He coined many words to describe it and mentions names invented by others, such as the Information Age.”
