OL -20180206
The company dinner of year 2017 was done in Chengdu, Sichuan province. As mentioned in the lesson of OL, there’s tons of food, booze, and prizes. We also have performances and lucky draws normally. And it’s a tradition to do a company dinner like this. But watch out, you may be get wasted no matter if you can hold your liquor. In China lots of people are used to chug the alcohol but it is not suitable for wine which is usually sipped.
The performances will be prepared two or three months in advance. It is a good time to celebrate the achievements of the year.
Before the start of the dinner, the general manager will give a speech. But almost everyone is eagerly tasting the delicious food and hope the speech won’t drag on for too long.
The contents of the speech as below:
“OK, everyone,I know you are all eagerly awaiting the fun part.
But, I’d like to take a brief moment to say a little something, if I may.
Every year as we gather together, I always see so many new faces who have joined us over the last twelve months.
It shows our ambition and determination to grow. But not everything has been smooth sailing. We met a great deal of challenges.
However, we overcame them, and we excelled. We landed new clients, established new partnerships and finished off with the best sales year in our company’s history.
All the success is because of your hard work and dedication. I’d like to thank each and every one of you!
Let’s keep up our good work and make the coming year an even better one!
Cheers! Kudos to you all!”
It’s a pity that I couldn’t join the dinner due to my maternity leave. Since I love Sichuan cuisine very much and I am eager to have an opportunity to go to Sichuan and taste various delicious food. But I enjoyed the time with my little baby who is the most valuable gift for me in year 2017.
Happy new year and best wishes for year 2018!
Some tips for the work party scene:
Gearing up for the next work party? Planning on getting completely hammered? You may want to think twice about that. In the west, work parties can be precious social events where a poorly made comment can land you on your boss’s blacklist. Although drinking and being social are always encouraged, it’s generally recommended that you watch your intake and make sure that you don’t go too wild.
So, just how much should you drink? Depending on how much liquor you can hold, this may be a lot or maybe it will just be one glass. The important thing here is just to keep yourself nicely buzzed without blurting anything out or disgracing yourself with a drunken show. Every company has their own culture though, so just make sure you find out what is and isn’t acceptable.
Lastly, you might keep in mind that there is a lot less pressure to drink at these events and you are not expected to match the drinks of your peers. If you feel that you’ve had enough, just say so and most people will accept that and you are at your limit or just want to keep things low-key.
