Chapter 5 The Machine
Finally, I got inside the lab. It was just a plain room, but incredibly large. I couldn’t see the end of it, it looked exactly like a enormous black hole. I turned to Dr. Mystery,“Doctor, why don’t you turn on the lights in here, it’s too dark.” I was eager to know what’s in this room. “Ha, that’s funny because there is no artificial light in this lab, all the lighting comes from our sun.” Those words sounded reasonable to me, I nodded. “The dark places you see are just covered with curtains.” He added.
He clapped his hands, one of the curtain slightly rose up, and a strange machine showed up. The machine was white, contrast with the dark color of the lab. It looked like a tall shelf, the only differences were the supporting bracket and seat beneath it. I asked the professor: “What does the machine do?” “They are my newly-invented time machine which can help people travel to all periods oftime. Since it was all new, it haven’t been practiced yet.” I found it boringand started examining the entire lab.
With the dim sunlightshone through the windows on the side of the lab, some experimental tables andequipment could be seen. I observed the potions tubs in the test-tuberack, Coincidentally, they were all transparent no like others which are mixed with different colors.“These are special serums extracted from animals and they can be used to savepeople’s lives.” Dr. Mystery discovered me watching the clear liquid in tubs.“You mean they are extracted from animals? How did you do that?” I was curious.“Well, I’ll keep it a secret.” He winked like a child. I felt a little upset, butDr. Mystery patted my shoulder andpointed the white-colored machine to me, “Do you want some time-travelling?” his smile was as mysterious as his name.
