Some thoughts about Lang-8
1. It is difficult to be Chinese.
As you can see, if you publish a Chinese essay on Lang-8, many helpful and lovely Chinese students will give you corrections. Why is that? I guess it is because there are many Chinese students who are using this website. Why is that? I guess it is because we have the biggest population in the world! Once the website became popular on RenRen (the Chinese version of Facebook), suddenly the number of "Chinese teachers" on this website sharply increased, which also meant that the number of "English students" increased as well. I guess that is why we can not get as many corrections. That is a very simple propotional rule. Being a Chinese student means that you have to face a lot of competition from the first day of your education. In my opinion, this situation acts as a reminder for me to work even harder to achieve success.
2. I am shocked by their Chinese skills!
Foreigners can write really good Chinese essays! I feel surprised reading their articles. On the other hand, I find that there are many excellent "Chinese teachers" on this website. They offer accurate and beautiful corrections to students from other countries. I admire them very much but at the same time, I feel sorry for my own expression skills. I think by correcting others' mistakes I can also improve my Chinese skills, which is very important. Perhaps I have put too much effort into studying English and neglected my Chinese skills. Oh, I should not be so confident about my Chinese...
I appreciate Lang-8 very much. By using it, I have realized my disadvantages both in both English and Chinese. I am sure that I will improve in the future.
I hope you can also improve your language skills with me.
P.S. What does "Lang-8" mean?
"Lang-8" is a play on words which sounds really close to the word "language" when spoken quickly in English. Lang-Eight.
