‘Be kind, for everyone fights against a hard life’ said the young man, Auggie Pullman, when he was granted the award at the end of the academic year for his optimism, brave and kindness affecting everyone around.
Auggie Pullman, who has experienced 27-times facial plastic surgeries, is the leading role in the movie. As the curtain rises, With a space suit and a helmet on, the little young man was dreaming of being an astronaut, jumping on a bed against the wall which was painted in blue with stars dotted. Auggie has not gone to school until he was in fifth grade, for he was too afraid to be exposed in public due to his monstrous appearance. The life in school was not smooth at first, by the reason of he being bullied from his classmates, who claimed anyone who touched him might cause plague, who put monsters’ pictures on his desk, and who photoshopped him out of the class photo, until one day someone sat in front of him on the dining table. During a science examination, he volunteered to hand on his answers to his tablemate, Jack Will secretly and they shared lunch together since then.
Quite a few people might be teased at when you were a student back in school for being fat, short, or ugly. But only few people can take it easily. When Jack Will asked him ‘why don’t you do the plastic surgery?’ in the school cafeteria, With his fingers fluffing his hair, Auggie said‘ this takes a lot of work to make me look so good ’. Even though it is just a joke between two good buddies, it still reflects how positive he was.
It also happened to me when I was in middle school. I still remember a girl said’ why are you dressing like country folk?’ and another girl said’ why are you dressing this ugly pants again?’ what’s worse, I heard a senior told another senior sister who had a crush on me ‘ told you, he’s poor’, when I was playing basketball wearing repaired clothes and broken sneakers in the court. Frankly, my family was really quite short of money back then, I wore the clothes and shoes with holes and patches, some of which were even given by my relatives. I always walked faster than anyone else, so that no one would notice me. Sometimes I would pretend no one noticed the patches on my clothes when encountering my schoolmates. truth to be told, I was pretty sensitive and self-contemptuous during that period and it took me for a long time to recover from this trauma. For my perspective, it was more like a treasure rather than a harm, by which I have been much stronger mentally.
Unlike me, little Auggie took off his helmet at his age. his optimism, kindness and brave altered his classmates’ attitude towards him and more and more people were joining his dining table. As the curtain goes down, With prolonged applause in the hall, August Pullman was standing in the stage, receiving the award from the principal.
As the precept goes, ‘When given the choice between being right or being kind, choose kind.’ Or, when given the choice between accepting or denying, choose accepting.
