Immanuel Kant ever said, the metaphysics is such a kind of science that if it’s done, it’s done forever.
Below we’ll try to work out the metaphysics of EQ.
EQ, short for Emotional Quotient, is known as the representative of Emotional Intelligence of homo sapiens.
Lots of books and management courses refer it, but none of them elaborate on it thoroughly.
The primitive definition of EQ is the ability to cope with the emotion.
Thinking thoroughly, we can find out that EQ is in fact the ability of taking the right action on others.
Then we can converge to two fundamental capabilities.
First, gain the insight into others’ action.
Second, act deliberately to transform the insight into the intended result, i.e. others’ reaction.
We use “the” to modify “intended result” because it must conform Tao.
Otherwise, if the "intended result” is “my", I’m cheating him/her; else if it’s “his/her”, nothing works.
Now we can see something interesting.
The two fundaments are all about others, i.e. on the object. None is on the subject.
And all about actions. None is about the emotion.
To gain the right insight into others’ emotion, we need to observe carefully, analyze thoroughly, and think in others’ shoes.
To act correctly based on the insight, we need to get rid of the control of self’s emotion, anticipate how others will react if I act, and act right as how it should be perceived by others.
We may continue to elaborate, however, there is no time left, so let’s do the exercise next time.
