Chapter one
The Child who was left behind
This story is about a little girl name Mary Lennox. There are five main characters in this story, which are Mary, Decan, colin, Mary's uncle and garden keeper.
Mary is a nine year old. She's neither pretty nor pleasant. Her parents didn't lover her at all, leaving her to the servants all the time. The servants were afraid of being blamed by their masters, so they gave Mary whatever she wanted and let her do whatever she wanted. So, she turned into a selfish, angry and lonely person.Nobody liked her.
Life would keep going this way if the tragic accident never had happened. Mary's parents were found dead of cholera, so were the servants, which made Mary the only surviver.
She was then taken to an Englishman's house, but she didn't like there at all. And no one in that family either. As she was about to leave, one of the Englishman's children told Mary that he was happy that she was leaving, because he didn't like her.
Plus, the boy also told Mary that she was going to be sent to her uncle's in England, and her uncle is a hunchback. Mary didn't believe it. She was kind of scared but didn't show it.
Finally, she got on a boat to England. She was traveling togethere with a woman who had neglected Mary because of her own children.
When they got to London. One English woman was waiting for them, who was the housekeeper of Mary's uncle. The housekeeper didn't think well of Mary, but she still told Mary about her uncles's house, including what to do and what not to do.
The house was on the edge of the moor. It had many rooms inside and many gardens outside. Mary thought it sounded like something in a fairy tale.
Mary was told that she would never see her uncle, and she was not allowed to enter some of the rooms in the house as well as some of the gardens. This made Mary unhappy and not sorry about her uncle's hunchback anymore.
