“Let me see your spelling task, my dear.” Dad asked eagerly. Karie had no choice but to pull put the test paper. Dad fixed his eyes on the paper, a smile appearing on his face. “Fantastic! I’m so proud of you! Sweetie, Let’s have a celebration.” Seeing her father’s smile, Karie felt a sense of guilty in her heart. She pretended to smile, echoing him. But that night, she was sleepless, for she had butterflies in her stomach.
The next day, she sat on her seat waiting for the class to start. No sooner had the bell rung than she rushed to Ms Mclormack. “ Ms. Mclormack! I have to confess one thing to you. Said Karie seriously. “ what is it?” said Ms. Mclormack. “I shouldn’t have gained 100 for my spelling test. The word “honestly” I spelt missed a “t”. replied Karie. “OK. I got it! But why did you tell me the truth? You could have hidden the secret and just enjoy the honor.” Asked Ms. Mclormack. “It is just because the meaning of HONESTLY, Ms. Mclormac. It reminds me of being honest.” Answered Karie ,determined. “OK. Everybody. Yeah, it seems that Karie shouldn’t have gained the prize for a small mistake.” Ms. Mclormac paused, cleared her throat and then announced aloud, “ but I will still give the prize to her for her honesty.” In the applause of the whole class, Karie watched Ms. Mclormac touching her head gently, bursting into tears.
