Many young people have formed a unrealistic picture of marriage life. They imagine marriage life to be romantic and a dreamland of “just the two of us”. Assuming someone will always be there to share ups and downs, they believe that happiness will double and duties will halve. The other side of the picture is quite the opposite. Marriage, they might discover, makes their dreamland the most practical. Instead of being merrier and freer, they find that establishing a new household means endless housework, mostly trivia, and more obligations to fulfill. Perhaps there is an element of truth in both these pictures and you’d better look before you leap.
