Coeducation is nowadays the most common choice in both public and private schools, since the generality of teaching experts argue that coeducation is by far the most practical way to inspire the students of both genders to cooperate and compete for optimal learning efficiency. However, the argument is recently doubted by some others, who suggest that coeducation should give its way to the separate education considering students’ different needs and mindsets. From my perspective, the suggestion is logical.
First of all, separate education is obviously superior to coeducation since it provides students with abundant opportunities to command the integrated knowledge and skills in accordance with their own needs. In a class of male students, teachers can add the courses of martial art or equestrianism to foster male students’ masculinity. In this way, the students are going to cope with the dilemmas of their future life and to protect their wives as well as children from dangers as brave and dutiful men. In comparison, the courses of a female-centered class can extend from childcare to make-up tips, which will definitely increase female students’ faith in their marriage and social life.
Moreover, separate education is worthwhile in that it caters for students’ discrepant mindsets. For example, when asked to evaluate the reasonability of vivisection for scientific purposes, most of boys may support the method eventually for it accelerates medical development to save more patients from diseases. Nevertheless, their female classmates may criticize the approach immmediately simply because it may take away the lives of lovely rabbits. The example impeccably proves that male and female students are absolutely different thinkers. Generally speaking, male students are so rational that they make their judgment based on facts. It is because of this, the teachers of a male class have to cite adequate evidence to prove the reliability of the opinions and theories that they convey. However, female students are accustomed to grounding their judgment on their intuition or, in other words, on their feeling. Therefore, female-class teachers are supposed to explain their thoughts with more moving sentiments than solid facts.
In brief, the benefits of separate education is convincible. Whereas, some people may deem that it isolates the students and prevents them from interaction. As a matter of fact, most of separate schools have realized the negative effects of the isolation and have offered diverse optional lessons for the students of both genders to study together. Thus, the anxiety about isolation is not necessary at all.
