4【Any other business】
A: Has any body got the copy of the agenda?Would you mind taking minutes(Keep a record of the meetting),John?
B:Not at all
A :Good ,then let's get stareted. First of all, thank you everyone for attendding at short notice。As you know ,the object of this meeting of the capital works committee is to discuss a proposal for some urgent building work at our southside plant. as we’ve got to reach a decision which may
involve spending。we‘ll run IT as a formal meeting。Now you’ve read the proposal,so without further ado,i'd like to open it for discussion。perhaps we can start with you, tan。(Let‘s hear from tan)
A:So to sum up, i think we all aware that some urgent work does neet to be done. And we will need to work on longer term plan for a major refit.
A: well,if there is no more discussion,we’ll put
it to a vote。 we are recommending that tenders be called for the urgent work needed。
All those in favour?then that's agreed.(consensus)
5【Hear hear】
A:Well,I‘m not convinced that the work is as urgent as this report suggests。(I am not sure about that)
B:Well ,as far as i am concerned,it’s a question of safety,so
i think we should go ahead。
A:Are you suggesting that someone could get hurt?(Do you mean....)
B:In my opinion,yes。
C:Oh ,common, the buildding is practically falling down.
D:Sorry,Lin ,i don't think tan had finished,we‘ll get to you in a
minute。
D:Excuse me,sorry tan ,perhaps we should move on。 we do have to Keep an eye on the time。
E:What about the problem with parking ,there were no palace again this morning。
D:Parking isn't on the agenda for this meeting,Perhaps you could suggest it for our next meeting ,barbara.
A:Are you implying we should have done something earlier?
B:Much earlier,It's a real concern。
C:Hear,hear。
A:In that case,I agree。(I concur)We should do something now。
6【What are the options】
A:Now we are looking at the options for handing our on-line orders, they are going through the roof (increase rapidly)and frankly the lead-time(time from start to finish of a process) for delivery is blowing out(become great in a bad way)。We need to improve our performance in this area。
B:Well as I see it ,we have three options。The obvious one is to employ more people to do the job。Another alternative is to automate the system more, cut down the physical handing。
C:And the third option?
B: We could outsource。
D:Well, looking at increased staff versus automation,we have to consider the cost。
Automating has a higher capital cost than putting on more staff。On the other hand ,employing more people is more expensive over a long term。
Although Automation is more expensive ,it's more efficient。
A:How likely is it that we'll see continued growth?
B: Well,I‘d say it's certainty。(反面:there is no likelyhood)
D:I’d say a high probability,nothing‘s certain in business。
D:Outsourcing is the cheapest option, and the easiest-in the short term. But if we wnat to keep the operation in-house,the best option is automationg our system.
