一、阐明双方意见的共同出发点
再激辩的双方也有共同的初衷或是目标，在文章中阐明这一点更容易使人信服。
Topic:There should be an 11pm curfew for juveniles. Do you agree or disagree?
对于这个话题辩论双方的共同出发点是什么呢？
W: Teenagers should have a healthy growing-up environment.
Eg:Everyone wants a safer city, a lower crime rate and fewer gang-related tragedies.
二、承认对方观点
在阐述自己观点之前先承认对方观点，以表明已经过全面思考，方法有三。
A.在文章主题句中引用对方观点
A. Topic1: Studying a foreign language is a waste of time.
Your position: opposing this statement.
W: While some say that it is unnecessary to learn a second language, I believe that a foreign language is of great use both in terms of everyday life and career development.
Eg: Although some students believe that studying a foreign language is a waste of time, two years of foreign-language study should be required of all college graduates.
A. Topic2:Local TV news is useful.
Your position: opposing this statement
W: Despite telling us what’s happening in our community, local TV news fails to offer nutritious information most time.
Eg: While local TV news casts can provide a valuable community resource, too often such programs provide mere entertaintment at the expense of solid news.
B.以对方观点作为引子引出主题句
B. Topic: Working part-time is beneficial to teenagers.
Your position: opposing the statement
W: Teenagers can earn pocket money and get knowledge of a particular industry through part-time job. However, too much hours of working takes up the time that students should use on studying and participating in school activities.
Eg: Many people argue that working can be a valuable experience for the young. However, working more than about fifteen hours a week is harmful to adolescents because it reduces their involvement with school, encourages a materialistic and expensive lifestyle, and increases the chance of having problems with drugs and alcohol.
C.详细整段总结分析对方观点
C. Topic:The manufacture and sales of handguns should be outlawed.
Your position: Agreeing with this statement.
W: Some people support the sales of hand guns because they believe that keeping a gun at home can protect their families in certain circumstances.
Eg: Many citizens believe that gun ownership is a right guaranteed by the Constitution and that gun owners fear that outlawing handguns would deprive law-abiding people of protection against gun-toting criminals.
三、承认对方观点合理性
这一点与上一点不同的是，除了要说明对方观点，还要有论据职称对方观点。
Topic: Computers should be used in writing classrooms.
Your position: opposing this statement
W：It is true that students can use computers to search for the material they need to support their writing, while I believe that computers may not help students in writing that much because they distract students from analyzing and organizing their writings.
Eg: Granted, students who are already accustomed to computers can use them to write papers more quickly and efficiently. But for students like me who writer and think in longhand, a computer in the classroom is more a hindrance than a help; it would require too long a learning curve to be of any value to me.
