1.Activate and share
1.Explain the meaning of the word underdog.
And then check how well the students understand the meaning:
【设计意图:underdog一词,中国学生少见。教材的引入稍显突兀、突然。这一步设计旨在让学生借助多本词典深入解读体会其含义,降低理解难度。】
2. Show some pictures of famous football stars, including Yao Ming(2.26m), Kobe(1.98m) ,Bogues(1.60m). Ask Ss: Do you think the height plays an important part in playing basketball ?
【设计意图:利用图片,创设情境,激活背景知识,提出问题。 引导学生关注身高和打篮球的关系。】
3.T says: Today , please follow Irene, learning about the story about Paul . Look at the title The Underdog, what do you expect to learn from the text?
Instruct students to ask questions in the following way and write them down on the blackboard:
Who might Paul be ?
What story would it be ?
