雅思口语Part 2

A thing that is important to u

  • from where
  • how long
  • why important

Let's talk about my piano. I got it from my parents. Actually I begged them for one, because it was very expensive. That was the time when I was six. Actually they bought me the piano out of a simple intention that I can learn a speciality, which would give me bonus points when I attend the primary school or junior high school entry examination. But I've got way more than that. You know, confidence is very important to a child's growth. I got lots of applauses every time I perform in my school. It helps me build up positive personalities. The next facet is it helped me develop a sense of rhythm. That's especially important cuz in high school I learned street dance. You know how important rhythm is. Ok and from a higher perspective, playing piano makes me think and feel the world, feel the love, think of positive things. Every time I play, I m peaceful and calm, and feel like I love my live. That's all.

Old person u know who u admire

  • how you know him/her
  • what kind of person
  • why u admire

The man I admire very much is my father. He is a 54 years old motorist. Riding motorcycle is not his job, but his hobby. Maybe it's very normal to ride a motorbike in foreign countries like America and Australia, but for Chinese people, it's hard to believe and kinda unacceptable. Because it's dangerous and a waste of money. It is generally thought that people of his age should just keep themselves healthy and save money for their offsprings. People who act like my father is considered irresponsible. If u ask me why I can understand him, that's because since I was in primary school, he has kept telling me that the academic record is not the most important thing. This kinda thought is very different from other parents. He taught me one should have dreams, chase after what he wants, and follow his heart. And he showed me. Last month, he rode to Tibet with motorbike, taking my mother. They've ridden 10 thousands kilometres back and forth. It was his dream when he was very young. I know it is normal in the US and Australia, buying a caravan after retirement. But in China my father is really a rare species, where dreams is a luxury topic. So I love him and I admire him, he is remarkable.

Traditional Chinese dress

  • distinctive features
  • how popular in china
  • expensive or cheap
  • why distinctive

The first traditional Chinese dress pops in my mind is a kind of long tight dress that I usually wear. It is originated from the Qing Dynasty, the last dynasty in Chinese history. This dress has some distinctive features. Its fabric is made of silk. And the surface is embroidered with various patterns. It has a stand-collar, with a button in the centre. All the buttons on that dress are weaved and knotted. The knot is used to clasp the button. And when you look down, you can see a tight skirt, and a long slit is on the side of it, up to the thigh. That's the most distinctive thing, cuz it is sexy. And during the long Chinese history, you can barely find a costume that express sexiness explicitly. That make is beautiful. But compared with contemporary clothing, the traditional dress is not that comfortable, and needs certain hairstyle to match it. So I don't think it's very popular in China. But I like to wear it.

Describe an item of clothing of jewellery

  • what it looks like
  • on what occasions do u wear it

My husband bought me a gift last year. It is a Pandora bracelet. Pandora is the brand. The bracelet has a sterling silver bangle, with two words engraved on it, "family forever". The bangle can be opened and closed with a clasp, to put on and take off charms. The charms include normal charms, clips, spacers, and pendants, with different patterns like crown, snowflake, daisy, and jasmine. They are made of sterling silver and cubic zirconia. It is a exquisite and kinda divine jewellery. So I think it matches better with formal decent clothing, like evening dress, especially blue dress, cuz some of my charms are blue. I can wear it on my wedding ceremony, some parties, banquets. But actually I wear it everyday. I m just lazy to take it off.

A job u would like to have in the future

  • what this job would involve
  • what study u would need to do to prepare for it
  • why
  • how u will get this job

The job I'd like to have in the future is an analyst in an investment bank. The responsibility of this position is to establish models for different investment project. That involves programming and basic financial knowledge. Since I am an IT graduate, I have no problem writing programmes in Python and Matlab, which are the common languages used in this job. But financial knowledge is my bottleneck. I need to learn fundamental economic principles. Do u know why I want to do it? On one hand, as an IT student, the sense of achievement is derived from the outcome of my coding work, other than the process. On the other hand, as a woman, I think managing my money is more important than earning it. So this job is a stone that can kill two birds. How can I get it? I have a friend working as a analyst. I'll ask him for more experiences, and find a internship working for half a year. And then I'll be prepared for a full-time job.

Instructive book

  • title and content
  • when did u read
  • why it's instructive or important to u

The first book pops in my mind is "The affairs of Ming Dynasty". It's the name of the book. It's a very very famous book in China, talking about the whole history during the 300 years of Ming Dynasty. This book is so distinctive from other history books, because the author used a very humorours wording to tell the stories about empires and their cabinet ministers, and even some . I read it when I just broke up with my boyfriend. Actually, he dumped me. So I was very upset at that time, and need something to fulfill my mind rapidly. I recalled that "Why I don't read this book? It's so popular and I haven't read it." So that was how I stepped into this tremendous, fabulous, and attractive world. Those stories in this book are all real, authentic stories. So I've learned a lot of history knowledge. Beijing, this city suddenly turned out to be very vivid in front of my eyes. How it was established, how the foreigners attacked and ruined it, how ministers and normal people sacrifice their lives to protect their hometown. Beyond that, I learned a principle that history is just a circle. We don't need to be exciting when an era is prosperous, or be grieved when it is dying. We just need to do our best, do something that when we go to the eternity won't make us regret.

Describe a family not ur own family

  • where the family lives
  • who the members are
  • how u know them
  • what each person does in life
  • why do u like this family

I m going to describe the family which has kept the most intimate relationship with my family. The father in that family grew up with my father, and the child in that family grew up with me. The man works as a doctor, actually a physician. So during my whole childhood, even hitherto, all of my malaises have been cured by him, of course except for the severe ones. The mother in that family worked as journalist first, writing editorials, and then she became a editor of a newspaper. Their child is one year younger than me. After I finished the university entry examination. They came to my home to ask for experience. I gave the boy a lot of materials to review. Every year we gather together. But the rule has to be broken since he and I are both going abroad.

A cafe and restaurant u know

  • where & how often u go there
  • what food they serve
  • who u go there with
  • why u like to eat at there

It's a restaurant just one block beside my home. So I go there quite frequently. My favourite food there is braised lamb shanks with asparagus. Sometimes I order a glass of sauvignon blanc or chardonnay. I think sauvignon blanc matches best with lamb, beef, and fish. Ah, appetizing! I m gonna to drool. When I and my intimate friends went there, we thought we were the happiest people in the world. It's really a good place to kill time. I love this place not only for their foods, but also for their quiet environment, and good service. By the way, their cured salmon and scrambled egg are also fascinating. Yeah, I m a foodie.

Food

I love braised lamb shank. You put lamb shanks into cold water, boil it until the meat is pierced with knife. Then you put various spices into it, as various as possible. After that, get the lid on, and stew the lamb for one hour. That will be beyond your imagination.
