Yesterday I participated in experiencing the blind people's movie watching activity. Seeing the volunteer girl lead the road as the blind young man lay his hand on her shoulder, a warm feeling of being trusted filled my heart. It feels so good that to be trusted by the others. Your become the other's eyes. They rely on you to find the way forward. The words on the back of the volunteer's jacket are shining under the bright sunshine.
The second thing impressed me is that when I closed my eyes and talk with them. At the second i closed my eyes, I feel the surrounding world a bit quieter immediately and my attention spontaneously more focused on the speaker's words. It became more clearer and louder. Another feeling is that when I was talking with eyes closed, the volume of my voice became bigger. I can feel that I'm trying hard/have the eager to express myself and let the others get my message which behaviour I observed from the blind old woman who tried to talk with me. I can feel that she has a strong desire to talk with someone and to express herself. Are the blind people most times lonely? Is it difficult for them to find one to listen to them and talk with them all the time? Is it because that the shut-down of the eyes closed lots of doors to engage them therefore their attention was limited and strengthened on the focus of 'expressing' themselves through the mouth. The shut-down of the eyes sharpened the ability of the ears. And the lessen of the collecting of the outside stimulating information strengthened the desire of using mouth to share the inner thoughts and search for the affirmation from the others.
The blind people's life are still normal(It's a relative concept that just bit different from ours doesn't means that theirs are abnormal.). They can use cellphones and all the social media apps. Talking with them, I found a new way to use these apps and it opened another door for me which made me feel so happy.
They still use the word 'watch' to say watch movies. Yes, just it's their way to watch movies. The types of movies they watch and prefer are the same with us. It's all about the age, hobbies and the understanding of the world. Yes, we are all the same no matter what parts of the body and mind lost their functions.
